Shab e Barat is on 30 March. Shab e Barat is known as The Night of Forgiveness in the Islamic faith and Muslims worldwide. Shab e Barat date will be on 28 Mar in the Arabic world and in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and some other parts of the world are on 30 March . Muslims believe that Shab-e-Barat is the 'night of records' or 'night of mercy' as God writes their destinies for the coming year based on their past deeds. Therefore, the night is spent offering namaz, sending prayers for the deceased, and mercy for the sins committed. Shab-E-Baraat or Laylat al-Baraat is an Islamic festival that is celebrated by Muslims all around the world. Translating to the 'The Night of Fortune and Forgiveness', Shab-e-Barat means night of forgiveness or atonement and commemorates the day Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) entered the city of Makkah. Shab e Barat is believed to be a night when Allah declares fortune and forgiveness for anyone in a quest. 

People from around the Muslim world perform Nawafil (special/optional prayers) and ask forgiveness for themselves as well as their ancestors. People pray namaz and nawafil in their homes and mosques and pray out for desires, forgiveness, worldly and after-worldly fortunes. The night is seen as a chance for increased ajar, as it is believed that praying on the night of Shab-e-Baraat takes special meaning and Allah Almighty blesses the rest of the year, and our future, along with providing us with a good chance of forgiveness. To make the most of this night, here are some ayats and duas that will help you.

Fasting is encouraged on the 13th, 14th, and 15th days of every Islam month - which would include the time when Shab e Barat takes place. And it's been stated that Muhammad took part in fast through most of the month of Shaban except on the last few days before Ramadan begins.

Verily Allah the Glorious and Majestic look at His servants on the night of mid-Sha`ban, and He forgives those who ask forgiveness, and He bestows mercy on those who ask mercy, and He gives a delay to the people of envy and spite in their state.”

Duas to recite after Namaz-e-Maghrib on Shab-e-Baraat In the second rakaat, after Surah-e-Fatiha, recite Surah-e-Ikhlas 3 times and Surah-e-Naas once. After Salaam, recite Surah-e-Yaseen then Dua-e-Nisf-e-Shabaan, make Dua and ask Allah to protect your Imaan.

You have to make intention for 4 rakaat, nafal or Salatul Tasbih to please Allah and then start your namaz in the normal way. After reciting the Sanaa, the recitation of Tasbih needs to be done 15 times – The Tasbih here is: “Subhanallahi Wal Hamdulillahi Walaa Ilaaha Illallahu Wallahu Akbar”, before you continue with your namaz.

After that, you need to recite Ta’wwuz (Auzubillah) Tasmiyah (Bismillah) and Surah-e-Fatiha, along with one more Surah. When you’re done with this, recite the Tasbih again 10 times. While in Ruku, recitation of the Tasbih is again done 10 times. When you’re standing straight, after Ruku, as you say ‘Sami Allahu Liman Hamida Rabbana Walakal Hamd’, it too must be followed by Tasbih 10 times.

While in Sajdah, the Tasbih should be recited again, 10 times. When you are sitting straight from Sajdah, in the position of Iftirash, the Tasbih is to be repeated 10 times again – repeat the cycle in the second Sajdah. The other 3 rakaats are to be followed in the same pattern for the complete Salatul Tasbih. Shab-e-Barat is also regarded as the Night of forgiveness or Day of Atonement. Muslims observe Mid-Sha'ban as a night of worship and salvation. Scholars including Imam Shafii, Imam Nawawi, Imam Ghazzali, and Imam Suyuti have declared praying acceptable on the night of mid-Shaban.

On this night of forgiveness, take time to figure out all the people who wronged you intentionally and unintentionally. Remember them in your prayers and forgive them.

Hazrat Ali (R.A) said, “O people, spend the night of 15 Shabaan in prayers and have fasted on the day of 15 Shabaan. On this blessed night, Allah showers His mercy to the people and calls out: “IS THERE ANY WHO SEEKS FORGIVENESS, IS THERE ANY NEEDY WHOM I SHOULD GRANT” till the Fajr time.”

Shab-e-Barat has great Fazilat in Islam. One night, our beloved Holy Prophet (PBUH) remained in sajdah for an unusually long time. The Sajdah was so long that Hazrat Ayesha (R.A) became worried about Him (PBUH). When He (PBUH) finished his prayer, he explained about his long Sajdah to Hazrat Ayesha (R. A), and said, “Do you know the importance of tonight? It is mid-Shabaan night. Allah Almighty accepts “Tauba” of his creature. Allah Almighty blesses the sinners if they seek forgiveness.”

Our beloved Holy Prophet (PBUH) used to pray for the whole night on 15 of Shabaan and had fasted on the day of 15 Shabaan. On this day, our previous year’s deeds are presented before Allah Almighty. He (PBUH) used to pray at 15 Shabaan night and have fast on 15 Shabaan’s day so that when His previous year’s deeds are to be presented, Allah would have mercy. (Remember, He (PBUH) is a beloved Prophet of Allah and is already in His Mercy. But He (PBUH) did this act so that the other Muslims follow it.

Shab-e-Barat is known as Laila-tul-Bara’at. Since Laila-tul-Bara’at means the Night of Salvation, every Muslim seeks mercy and forgiveness on this night from Allah Almighty. That’s why it is called “Laila-tul-Bara’at.

It is Shab-e-Barat when the life and death and fortune for the coming year are decided for every man and woman. So, the people offer special prayers on this night to seek forgiveness from Allah Almighty.

In Shab-e-Barat, Allah Almighty accepts the repentance of His creature and showers maximum blessings upon them till Fajr prayer. So, the people look towards Him for freedom from any calamity, disaster, or Azzab.

There is no particular prayer to offer on this night. However, to seek Salvation from Allah Almighty, you can offer Nafal, Salat-ul-Tasbeeh, recitation of Quran, and 5th Kalima Astaghfar to get forgiveness from Allah Almighty.

Virtues of Friday ?? Prophet Muhammad S.A.W said: "Allah gazes at His creation on the fifteenth night of Shaban and forgives all His slaves except for two types of people: those who attribute partner to Allah and those who have rancor for their fellow Muslim".

1. AS IF YOU ARE SINLESS Prophet Muhammed has said: “He who repents for his sin is like one who has no sin.” [Kenzul Ummal, no. 10174] 

2. THE PURIFICATION OF THE SOUL Ali ibn Abi Talib has said: “Repentance purifies the hearts and washes away the sins.” [Ghurar Al-Hikkam, no. 1355]

3. WE ARE THE SONS OF ADAM Prophet Muhammed has said: “Every son of Adam sins and the best of those who sin are those who repent.” [Al-Tirmidhi, no. 2499] 

4. FOR THE HAPPINESS OF ALLAH (SWT) Prophet Muhammed has said: “Allah rejoices for the repentance of His servant more than the barren woman rejoices for having a child, more than the lost one who finds his way and more than the thirsty one who finds water.” [Kanzul Ummal, no. 10165] 

5. THE SUPPLICATION OF THE HOLY PROPHET Prophet Muhammed has said: “Oh Allah, bring our hearts together, reconcile between us, guide us to ways of peace, and deliver us from darkness into light. Keep us away from immorality, outwardly and inwardly, and bless us in our hearing, our seeing, our hearts, our spouses, and our children. Accept our repentance, for you alone are the Relenting, the Merciful. Make us grateful for your blessings, praising and accepting them, and give them to us in full.” [Sunan Abu Dawud, no. 968] 

6. THE BEST TIME FOR REPENTANCE IS AT NIGHT Prophet Muhammed has said: “Whoever repents before the sun rises from the west, then Allah will forgive him.” [Sahih Muslim, no. 2703] 

7. DESCRIBING THOSE WHO REPENT Ali ibn Abi Talib has said of those who repent: “They planted the trees of their sins before their eyes and hearts, and watered them with the water of remorse; thus they produced safety for them and left them with contentment and dignity.” [Biharul Anwar: Vol. 78, pg. 72, no. 38] 

8. WHEN IS IT TOO LATE? Mohammed Al-Baqir has said: “When the soul reaches this [and pointed to his throat] there will not remain a chance to repent for the knowledgeable man, but there will remain a chance for the ignorant one.” [Usool Al-Kaafi: Vol. 2, pg. 440, no. 2.
